Descriptive Text Part I, II, III

Name: Valerie Christabel Hariko
Class: XII IPS 1 (34)

Hi guys! Welcome back to my blogπŸ˜‰. Today, our topic is descriptive text. Don't worry guys, this topic is genuinely easy. So lets study with me😊

DESCRIPTIVE TEXT, or in terms of writing only known as “description” is one of English lessons that should be mastered not only by junior high school students but also senior high school students, college students and anyone who loves English. Because after all, descriptive material is very necessary for the increasing of our English proficiency.

Some of the most famous authors, especially fiction writers, have good skill in writing descriptive text, so that their writing is very readable and easy to understand. Therefore, if we were able to master this lesson well, we might be able to become a great writer in the future.

Furthermore, I hope this explanation and example of the descriptive text can help my friend who is still in a long journey to learn English. Do not hesitate to read the explanation of descriptive text below, the more often we read about this text we will be able to understand it more. Furthermore it would be nice if we do not only understand mere, but also we can also write descriptive text ourselves.

Definition of Descriptive Text
Descriptive Text is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.

In a broad sense, description, as explained by Kane (2000: 352), is defined like in the following sentence:
Description is about sensory experience—how something looks, sounds, tastes. Mostly it is about visual experience, but description also deals with other kinds of perception.

Thus, if we conclude it from Kane’s explanation above, the descriptive text is meaningful text that describes the experience related to the senses, such as what shape, sound, taste is. Most descriptive text is about visual experience, but in fact the experience other than the sense of sight, we can also use it to make descriptive text.

But in particular, the descriptive text is, “…… is a text which says what a person or a thing is like. Its purpose is to describe and reveal a particular person, place, or thing.”

So, it can be said that the descriptive text is a text that explains about whether a person or an object is like, whether its form, its properties, its amount and others. The purpose of the descriptive text is clear, that is to describe, represent or reveal a person or an object, either abstract or concrete.

Generic Structure of Descriptive Text
When writing descriptive text, there are some generic structures (actually not mandatory) for our writing to be true. The arrangement is:

# Identification: (contains about the introduction of a person, place, animal or object will be described.)
# Description: contains a description of something such as animal, things, place or person by describing its features, forms, colors, or anything related to what the writer describe.

Purpose of Descriptive Text
– To describe person, thing or place in specific
– To describe a particular person, thing or place.

Language Feature of Descriptive Text
– Specific participant : has a certain object, is not common and unique (only one). for example: Bandengan beach, my house, Borobudur temple, uncle Jim
– The use of the adjective (an adjective) to clarify the noun, for example: a beautiful beach, a handsome man, the famous place in jepara, etc.
– The use of simple present tense: The sentence pattern used is simple present because it tells the fact of the object described.
– Action verb: verbs that show an activity (for example, run, sleep, walk, cut etc….

Descriptive Text Part 1
Part 1: make descriptive text about historical buildings.

Liberty Statue

The Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World or mostly known as The Statue of Liberty is located in Liberty Island in New York Harbor, United States. This national building is symbol of freedom. It was a gift from The French to United States to celebrate the centennial of the American Declaration of Independence.

Liberty Statue is made of 3.16 inch thick of copper sheets. The appearance of the statue is believed to be representing the Roman goddess of freedom. Its right hand is holding a torch, and the left hand is holding a book with the date of the American Declaration of Independence written on it. The colour of the statue was rusty brown, but after 30 years of oxidation process, it turns into green as we can see now.

The height of the statue measured from its base is 46 meters, but when it is measured from the ground, it is 93 meters. The height of the head is 14 feet. The width of the eye is 28 inches. The length of the nose is 3 feet 9 inches. The length of the forefinger is 8 feet. The total weight of the statue is 440.000 pounds

Descriptive Text Part 2
Part 2: make descriptive text about recreation places.

Pink Beach

Pink Beach or Pantai Merah Muda is one of the beaches in Komodo island, East Nusa Tenggara. The beach is called Pink Beach because the sand beach is pink. The pink color of its beach is a mixture of white sand beach colors mixed with crushed coral, shells, calcium carbonate from marine invertebrates that are very small, and also Foraminifera, microscopic amoeba that has a red body shell.

At Pink Beach, there are so many marine organisms. No fewer than 1,000 species of fish, 260 species of coral, and 70 species of sponge can be found here. Having so much marine life, this place is a proper spot for snorkeling and diving for sea sports lovers.

Cooking can be enjoyable activity if we like it but there are some people lazy to cook or even afraid because they cannot make delicious food. To help them, people who cannot cook can see recipes. Recipes are very helpful. When we want to make delicious food, we need recipe because there are steps that can lead us to do it. Recipe is an example of procedure text.

Another example is book instruction. When you buy a new TV or a new phone cell, there must be a book instruction in the box. Book instruction is also one of the examples of procedure text. Procedure Text Part II

Make Procedure Text: HOW TO DO

So this is the procedure text that I make:

How To Do Makeup For Beginners

1. Start with clean skin. Wash with a gentle cleanser or simply use a toner to wipe away any impurities from your skin.

2. Apply a light moisturizer. This will keep your skin from getting too oily during the day, and will help moisturize any dry patches on your skin. If you know you have oily skin don't skip moisturizer entirely; instead try a gel based formula that your skin will absorb quickly.

3. Dab on a tinted moisturizer or a light foundation to your skin. Apply just a few spots with your fingers to your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, then blend with fingers, or a foundation brush, working the spots outwards from the center in all directions.

4. Put a little concealer under the eyes. Use a small pointed brush to dot a bit where under-eye circles are darkest, usually at the inner and outer corners of the eye. Add a speck to other blemishes that aren't covered by the foundation and blend into the skin.

5. Set the concealer and moisturizer with a translucent powder. Apply it to your face, ideally using a velvet-y powder puff (as opposed to a powder brush, as that leaves a lot of loose powder) in a pressing motion.

6. Apply an eyeshadow of your choice to your eyelid. For beginners, try a single neutral shade like taupe or aubergine. Use a rounded shadow brush or your finger and make quick, short swipes across the lid, working your way up to the brow bone.

7. Apply eyeliner. Use a black or brown pencil and apply along the rim of your upper lash line in short strokes.

8. Curl your lashes. Place a lash curler at the base of your upper eyelashes (along the lid) and press for five seconds. After this, apply mascara. Apply to the upper and lower lashes with the tip of the wand oriented towards the outer corner of your eye.

9. Apply blush to the apples of your cheeks. Smile as you do this so you can clearly see where the apples are. Dab on the blush and blend upwards towards your temples.

10. Apply lipstick or lip gloss. Pucker your lips like you're about to plant a kiss and dab the lip color to the center of your upper and lower lip. This first application can be straight from the tube; then, use your fingers to blend outwards, adding color with your fingertips as needed.

11. Check yourself in bright light - daylight if possible - to make sure everything is blended and beautiful. You're done!

Procedure Text Part III

Make a Procedure Text: HOW TO USE
